Here’s the story of one of our most beloved felines, the subject of our very first post, and the mother of Red Jasper’s “chaos kittens”. Valentina. The beautiful black cat we rescued on Valentine’s day. As many of you know, when Tina showed up on our porch, she was far from how she is today. She was young and scruffy, but she was a fighter. We have no idea how long she was on the run, but we are happy that we can provide a home for her now. She’s always been a very smart cat- she must have been to outrun our dogs! Our dogs Sandy and Gandalf were on patrol the night she showed up on the property, and they decided she must have been a threat! No one was injured, but Tina sure had quite a fright! In order to escape she had to dangle from the patio railing about 11 feet in the air! Poor thing was getting awfully tired. As soon as we noticed the commotion, we called the dogs and ran out to investigate. But that was a long time ago, and now she and the dogs are great friends. We were so pleasantly surprised that she had her kittens here, and very glad she didn’t have to have them in the wild. She was (and still is) a great mom, she still grooms her kittens often- even though they are all adults now! But she doesn’t just cuddle them, she still “spanks” (aka. swats) them when they are naughty, and you can tell she’s disappointed when they pull off one of their little heists. She still loves to look after them, and probably still thinks of them as her babies, she doesn’t care that they’re 32 in cat years! Even though Toastada is a bit of a loner and doesn’t like going to “family snuggle sessions”, Tina still spends time with her too. To celebrate Mother’s Day she got to relax all day long and get a relaxing little massage. Happy Mother’s Day Tina, we’re glad to have you here at Red Jasper.
