Chompy Mom’s story

She gets her name do to being the heard’s head momma and her love of chomping on hay. Chompy is a ewe who came with the property when we moved in. We don’t know for sure, but we’ve estimated her to be about 70 in sheep years. We like to think that her motto is “Classy and Sassy”, which we think sums her up perfectly! She’s a classy gal- by far our most elegant and refined ewe in the pasture. Even when she’s wet or covered in hay, she always has a graceful disposition. Her sassiness is what’s kept her going all these years. She was always a very protective mom with her lambs, she was always ready to sass whoever got too close to her young ones, no matter what! She even rammed Sandy the puppy once, all the way across the barn floor! Poor Sandy just wanted to say hi to the new lamb, but Chompy didn’t agree with that idea at all! Sandy was alright, but she learned to be careful around Chompy Mom and her lambs from then on.

Even though much of Chompy’s life is a mystery, we do know that she’s been through a lot in the years that we’ve had her. From losing her gal pals to old age, and losing one of her daughters- Little, to a heart condition- it’s been tough for Chompy. But Chompy Mom is as resilient as she is classy and sassy, and even after all the loss, she still manages to enjoy her time at the sanctuary by eating hay, fresh greens, and hanging out with her sheep and human friends.
