Sandy
We purchased Sandy in 2017 in Oklahoma. Now days she’s an incredible dog and cherished member of the RJFS Crew. although she wasn’t always! Once upon a time she was wild- she ate all sorts of things- eggs, sticks, gloves, coats, even Amazon packages among other things! Over the years she’s certainly chilled out, even though once upon a time we questioned if we would be able to keep her.
We’ve been through a lot with Sandy, she out dates Red Jasper Farm by a long ways, and has seen our little farm grow over the years, being here to nurture and protect her friends along the way.
She’s had tough times, too. She’s had to undergo numerous surgeries, in her time here, and now has very unfortunate memories of vets. Needless to say she doesn’t really like them anymore, after all she’s been through.
Though she’s never had pups, Sandy loves taking care of everyone on the farm. Ever since she was a pup herself she was always taking care of someone, giving her the nicknames “Nanny Sandy” and “Momma Bear”. Her care of her friends has been quite evident over the years. She has been super sweet and gentle with Tina’s kittens, as well as Caramel’s kids. Once she tried to say hi to Chompy Mom’s lambs. Poor Sandy just wanted to say hi to the new little lamb, but Chompy didn’t like that idea! Poor Sandy got quite a headbutt launching her in the air, but learned to give ewes and their new lambs a lot more space! It’s a bit of a rule, though, that Sandy gets to meet, greet, and must approve of all new residents here!
Now Sandy spends her time as a mostly retired livestock guardian, lounging in the shade, hanging out with people she loves, and enjoying the retired life. But she’s still, even in retirement, the farm’s guardian, and she’s quite good at it!
